Picking a Career...
Your life's work:
The first rule in selecting a vocation is to find the activities in which you are deeply interested.
For example, you might be interested in commercial work such as building construction. Your
friends might like scientific work such as research.
The most successful people are those who
choose work they enjoy. When you like your job, you perform so well, quality of
work goes up, people are willing to pay more for your work, it is a win, win
scenario.
The second rule is to select a
type of work that you can do well. There are some things that you can do better
than the next person. Take time to see your High School counselor who can give
you expert advice. Vocational testing is available to find out what your
abilities and interests are.
Don't forget
for a moment that regardless of your interests and abilities, your success will
depend largely upon our personality and character. You must be
able to get along with other people. You must be absolutely honest, If you are
honest everyone will know it. If you are not, they will know that
too.
Be dependable and a hard worker.
Think on the job, do things before the boss has to remind you to do things. Be
a hard worker and a team player. Industry has no place for people who cannot
work with others.
